About the Magnum

This site is about one car: a 2006 Dodge Magnum with the 5.7L Hemi and all-wheel drive, in red.

The car has just under 100,000 miles — low for a twenty-year-old car.

The car was originally meant for my father. He had bought the exact same model and color new, when he retired and moved to Colorado. That car was immaculate, even after he had suffered two strokes. A couple of years ago, my sister took it out while visiting in Colorado, and totalled it.

My father lived on the western slope of Colorado. As a replacement, he naturally bought a Subaru. Which he hated. He missed his old Magnum.

While I was visiting, for fun, we started looking for an exact replacement. There was nothing in Colorado — the market is too small. But we found a car near me, in southern California.

I bought the car.

My father died before he could take possession.

Now I have a 2006 Dodge Magnum. I could sell the car, but I will hang on to it for a while, for what are likely emotional reasons.

The car is in very good shape for its age, but a little rough around the edges. I drive very little these days, aside from trips to Colorado to settle my father's estate. So I am slowly fixing up the car.

This weblog is a place to share that work, and to compare notes with other owners of these cars. There is a sedan version of basically the same car in the same years — the Dodge Charger — with a sedan body rather than a wagon. The two share a lot: the same platform, many of the same parts, and many of the same problems.

The aim of the weblog is to share experience with other folk who own similar cars.

If you own one of these cars and have a question or a story, I would like to hear from you. Write to preston@bannister.us.
